Masvingo – A 20 year–old man from Zaka has been sentenced to 13 years after he was found inserting his fingers into the private parts of a six-year-old girl.
Believington Hungwe Chimwanda appeared before Masvingo Regional Magistrate Judith Zuyu this week facing charges of aggravated indecent assault as defined in Section 66 of the Criminal Law and Reform Act Chapter 9:23.
Zuyu suspended five years of the sentence, leaving the man with an effective eight years in jail.
The minor is doing grade zero at Chimedza Primary School in Ndanga in Zaka District.
It is the Sate case that on December 31, 2015 at plot number 4, the complainant was coming from a nearby village to buy vegetables and saw the accused person in the road and she ran towards him.
The accused walked with the complainant for a short distance and when they reached an anthill the accused grabbed the complainant by the hand dragged her behind an anthill and then inserted his fingers into the complainant’s vagina.
The accused was interrupted by a neighbour Richard Chivenge who then alerted the girl’s grandmother Leah Chiwewe.
