Zimbabwean nurse Paul Nyatsuro struck off for penis picture in UK

A psychiatric nurse texted a photo of his genitals to a teenage patient and asked her to send nude pictures of herself back, a court heard.

Paul Nyatsuro, 38, reportedly exchanged explicit texts with the young patient while she was under his care.

He told the patient, a minor on an adult ward known only as Patient A, not to tell anyone about the photos and to meet him ‘when she had turned 18 or 19’, the Nursing and Midwifery Council heard.

Lara Akande, for the NMC, said: ‘It is alleged that the registrant had texted Patient A from his personal number and conducted an inappropriate conversation with this patient.

‘He sent a photograph of his genitals via text message and asked Patient A to send nude photographs of her own body to the registrant.

‘After sending the photographs to Paient A, it is alleged that the registrant told this patient not to tell anybody and asked to meet up when she had turned 18 or 19.’

Nyatsuro also asked another woman – Patient B – ‘questions of a sexual nature’ when she called a crisis line while working at Nottinghamshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust in October 2013, the tribunal heard.

One of Nyatsuro’s duties as a nurse was to take crisis calls from patients.

‘Patient B alleges that, during the course of that conversation with the registrant, he had asked her a number of inappropriate questions of a sexual nature,’ Akanda added.

The NMC alleges that Nyatsuro’s actions were sexually motivated. Nyatsuro, however, denies all charges against him.

The hearing continues.
