Diddy Found Guilty of Prostitution Transportation Charges, Cleared of Sex Trafficking and Racketeering

NEW YORK — Sean “Diddy” Combs, the Grammy-winning music mogul and entertainment icon, has been found guilty of transporting individuals for prostitution across state lines in a landmark ruling by a New York jury. However, the 55-year-old was acquitted of the more serious charges of sex trafficking and racketeering conspiracy, sparing him a potential life sentence.

The trial, which gripped the nation for over seven weeks, centred on accusations that Combs ran a criminal enterprise disguised through his businesses, coercing women including long-time partner Cassie Ventura into drug-fueled sexual encounters with paid male escorts. Though jurors were unconvinced of the alleged sex trafficking ring, they unanimously found that Combs funded and facilitated interstate travel for prostitution, including multiple hotel arrangements and flights.

In a moment of visible relief, Combs bowed his head in prayer as the verdict was read. His defence team, while celebrating the partial acquittal, was dealt a blow when the judge denied bail ahead of sentencing, citing a history of violence in Combs’ relationships.

He’s not going to flee. He’s been given his life back,” argued his lawyer Marc Agnifilo. But Judge Arun Subramanian disagreed, referencing defence admissions of past domestic violence.

Combs is set to be sentenced on 3 October 2025, and faces several years in federal prison.

‘Freak Offs’ and the Cassie Factor

During the proceedings, jurors were shown behind-closed-door footage and testimony detailing orchestrated “freak offs” Combs’ term for private hotel sex parties involving escorts and controlled substance use.

Cassie Ventura, heavily pregnant during her emotional four-day testimony, painted a harrowing picture of coercion, violence, and blackmail. Her legal team noted that while the jury didn’t convict Combs of sex trafficking her, her courageous testimony was instrumental in securing the guilty verdict.

“Cassie paved the way,” said her lawyer Douglas Wigdor. “She has left an indelible mark on the fight for justice in the entertainment industry.”

A Career in Ruins

Known also as Puff Daddy and P Diddy, Combs was a defining figure in 1990s hip-hop, launching Bad Boy Records, managing Notorious B.I.G., and scoring hits like I’ll Be Missing You. As recently as 2023, he was honoured with MTV’s Global Icon Award and given the key to New York City.

But his legacy began to unravel following Cassie’s November 2023 civil lawsuit which was settled within 24 hours for $20 million—and a leaked hotel surveillance video from 2016 showing Combs assaulting her.

Following his conviction, Combs also faces multiple civil lawsuits alleging sexual misconduct, which may result in further financial and reputational fallout.

What Comes Next?

Legal experts say the conviction sends a strong message about accountability and celebrity privilege. Though Combs escaped the most serious charges, his conviction marks a historic fall from grace and a cautionary tale for the entertainment world.

As sentencing looms, Combs’ defence team is expected to appeal. For now, the man who once ruled the charts awaits judgment not from fans, but from the court.
