Four Seke men who trapped a baboon, killed it before sharing the meat for relish were on Friday arraigned before Marondera Magistrate Arnold Maburo facing charges of contravening section 59 (S) of the Parks and Wildlife Act Chapter 20:14.
Lloyd Bvakacha (25), Lynotte Maunganidze (32), Munashe Huni (22) and Tafadzwa Mupfuti (23), all of Huni Village under Chief Seke, pleaded guilty to the charges of killing the wild animal for consumption.
However, the four were ordered to pay a fine of $20 each.
According to court papers, on August 10, at around 8am, the four accused saw a baboon wandering in their village.
The men set their dogs on the animal and started chasing it until it was trapped in a garden belonging to one of them.
Bvakacha killed the baboon after striking it on the head several times using an axe. The four skinned the baboon and shared the meat.
The case was then taken to Chief Seke’s court who then referred the matter to police. Police investigations revealed that the accused had no valid hunting permit.
The baboon was valued at $500. Courage Chakawa represented the state.
