BULAWAYO Central legislator Dorcas Sibanda who was one of the ushers at the Walter Magaya led Prophetic Healing and Deliverance (PHD) Ministries all-night prayer held in Harare recently was on Wednesday ordered to leave parliament for dressing improperly.
The incident occurred when flamboyant Gokwe Nembudziya Legislator, Justice Mayor Wadyajena who in May was chucked out of parliament when he turned up for the question and answer session clad in his Zanu PF party regalia raised a point of order saying Sibanda was not properly dressed.
“We must take this House seriously . My point of order is so simple. Hon D. S. Sibanda is not dressed properly. Look at her sleeves. Look at her”, said Wadyajena.
The Deputy Speaker who agreed with Wadyajena ordered the MP out.
“Hon Sibanda, honestly you are not dressed properly. Leave the House”, said the speaker.
Sibanda, who is a new member of PHD ministries argued that was an African attire and she was well dressed.
“No, do not come here. I want to talk to you from where you are. You have corrected it but you were not dressed properly. I think you have to apologise. Hon. Members we have rules in this House. You cannot just shout. Can we proceed?”, said the deputy speaker.
Sibanda then replied “Thank you very much Madam Speaker. Madam Speaker, I feel we are being victimised. This is part of the sexual harassment of women – [HON MEMBERS: Inaudible interjections.] – We are allowed to put on Africa attire unless if you are suggesting that we should not put on African attire in this House then I will withdraw”.
In July this year there was drama in the National Assembly when MDC proportional representation member Ms Priscilla Misihairabwi-Mushonga waved used panties in the House before charging at Justice Mayor Wadyajena (Zanu-PF) whom she accused of undermining her on the floor, culminating in her ejection from Parliament.
