Anne Kansiime to perform at HICC on Saturday

AFRICA’S queen of comedy Anne Kansiime is scheduled to perform in Zimbabwe on Saturday at the Harare International Conference Centre.

She will once again bring her side-kick Cotilda Inapo to the show which has been dubbed “Let`s Laugh Again Ha-ha-ha-Harare”.

The Ugandan comedian Anne Kansiime, who performed in the country last November will perform with South Africa-based local comedian Baba Tencen (born Pepukai Zvemhare), who is popular for his skits on social media. It will be his debut performance in the country.

“This is a show not to miss, Baba Tencen will be there, do your self a big favour, be at Rainbow Towers on Satuday and laugh with others,” said Baba Tencen.

In a video released last week, Kansiime promised to make Zimbabwean laugh with new jokes.

“Last year I was in Zimbabwe, Zimbabwean people showed me so much love, when I returned home my husband was looking at me with a side eye (jealous) eye each time I talk about Zimbabwe. I cannot wait to be in Zimbabwe again,” she said in the video.

She is expected to arrive in Zimbabwe on Thursday.

Tonderai Mwaita from Xtratime Entertainment, who are behind the show, said they are bringing back Kansiime in response to her fans requests.

Local comedian Q will also be part of the line up while, to add variety to the show, top beat-boxer Pro Beatz will bring along his humorous beat boxing act on the night as he has proved to be a fan-favourite at most comedy shows held earlier this year in Harare.

If her performance last year is anything to go by, then comedy lovers are in for a rare treat as every sentence she makes will make one’s ribs crack with laughter.

Kansiime began her career in 2007, while still an undergraduate at Makerere University, where she participated in drama skits acted by the theatre group ‘Theatre Factory’ who played at the Uganda National Theatre in Kampala’s central business district.

When Theatre Factory disintegrated, she joined Theatre Fun that replaced it. The best skits were broadcast on NTV Uganda in the Barbed Wire TV show that later became U-Turn.

She partnered with Brian Mulondo as a Taxi interview conductor in the MiniBuzz series and provided comic video dramatizations of topical issues that random passengers discussed.

According to recorded interviews that she gave in 2014, Anne began posting some of her sketch comedy skits on YouTube.

She received positive feedback and that encouraged her to post more videos. Her screen breakthrough came when Citizen TV from neighboring Kenya offered her a slot to produce, star and present a comedy show once a week.

That is how she came up with the Don’t Mess With Kansiime comedy show. As of November 2014, her YouTube channel had amassed more than 15 million views. Her YouTube videos receive thousands of views and she has appeared on BBC Focus on Africa.

She has played to packed houses in Blantyre, Gaborone, Kigali, Kuala Lumpur, Lagos, Lilongwe, London and Lusaka.
