EXPELLED Harare East MP Tendai Biti has said he has evidence to show that ZANU PF and the MDC-T national assembly members are working hand in glove to destroy the Renewal Team and have been holding secret meetings to that effect.
Biti told journalists in Harare Wednesday that he had evidence that two of their erstwhile colleagues from the MDC-T and some elements from the ruling party held a meeting where they planned the expulsion of Renewal Team MPs.
He, however, refused to name the two characters and the venue of the said meeting.
The former finance minister said the expulsion letter which was issued to him and his colleagues was written in the same language used in a letter sent to expelled ZANU PF members, Didymus Mutasa and Themba Mliswa.
Biti was referring to a letter that was circulated in Parliament before they were recalled which was written by MDC-T secretary general Douglas Mwonzora.
“That they (MDC-T) can actually sit and scheme and collude for two and half hours with some of the most nasty characters in ZANU PF to plot the destruction of the democratic movement, is the reflection of opposition politics”.
“But it doesn’t surprise us, which is why some of us on the 26th of April 2014 took a decision that we differ with these people in terms of values, principles and in terms of objectives,” he said.
Biti said the MDCT has just become a mirror reflection of what they have been fighting against for the last 15 years.
“ZANU PF and the MDCT are in fact same side of the same coin,” he said
He added that the decision by the Speaker Jacob Mudenda to expel them from Parliament showed that the Renewal Team was right to pull out of an organisation which was in all intents and purposes more ZANU PF than the ruling party itself.
Biti said the Renewal Team will continue to fight for democracy and electoral reform “so that in 2018 we give our people a genuine chance” to reverse the damage done by ZANU PF’s 35 years of rule.
