Eskom has threatened Zimbabwe that it will shut down its power supply if it does not pay its bill.
Zimbabwe Electricity Supply Authority (Zesa) owes the power utility over R250 million in unpaid electricity.
Eskom supplies Zimbabwe with 300MW of electricity, and is now threatening to pull the plug if not paid by December.
Speaking on AM Live, Eskom spokesperson Khulu Phasiwe says they have received a guarantee from the Zimbabwean government that the money will be paid.
“The reason why we got the guarantee from the state was because we had indicated to them that we will be forced unfortunately into a situation where we interrupt their power supply, as we do with many of our customers even here in South Africa. The state came in and said to us that they are working on something and as we know Zimbabwe is currently going through some cash crunch. Once they have put together a package then that money will be flowing to Eskom.”
