HARARE-A renowned global fashion designer and handsome Spanish businessman, Manuel Fernandez who is dating Sarah, Duchess of York ,8 years his senior is in Zimbabwe.
The style guru 47, who has claimed international status in fashion capitals of the world, is believed to be in his first ever visit to Africa where he has expressed interest to contribute to Zimbabwe’s arts sector although reports suggests he has huge business interests on the continent.
Fernandez has straddled the great fashion capitals of Paris, New York, London and Madrid, among many others.
On arrival in Harare, Fernandez’s first port of call was the National Gallery where he told the ZBC News in a mixture of English and Spanish phrases that he has been in the fashion business for almost 30 years.
Fernandez said he wants to work with the Harare International Carnival for designs that speak into the rich Zimbabwean culture, which will in turn be exhibited in many different parts of the world.
The Deputy Minister of Tourism and Hospitality Industry, Anastancia Ndhlovu, whose ministry brought the global designer into the country, is upbeat it is brand zimbabwe which will benefit from the Fernandez influence.
Fernandez has worked with different artists from the world and is famed for his concept fashion art which has been travelling around the world.
The project has involved many Latin American artists from Porto Rico, who capture their paintings in the exclusives dresses of the designer after a common work process where artist and designer combine their talents.-ZBC
