Investigation by Anti-corruption commision

Two weeks ago , Zimbabwe’s anti-corruption commission launched a probe into the legitimacy of a doctorate awarded to the wife of Robert Mugabe, the former president who was pressured into stepping down after an army takeover last year.

The agency opened the case into Grace Mugabe after complaints by academics about the qualification that she obtained in 2014, according to a commission official who declined to be named. The PhD was awarded just as she was displaying her political ambitions and rising through the ranks of the ruling Zanu-PF party.

The investigation is the latest humiliation for Mrs Mugabe who was put under house arrest with her husband when the army sent armoured vehicles and troops on the streets of Harare in November. The military intervention that ended Mr Mugabe’s 37-year hold on power was triggered by his decision to sack Emmerson Mnangagwa, his then deputy, who was locked in a bitter succession struggle with the first lady.

Call For Levi Nyagura To Go

University of Zimbabwe students recently staged a demonstration and refused to write their examinations calling for the resignation of Vice Chancellor Professor Levi Nyagura. The students said they were tired of corruption at the university, including the allegedly “dubious” award of a doctor in philosophy degree (PhD) to First Lady Dr Grace Mugabe in 2014. University of Zimbabwe former students’ council secretary-general Mr Chrispen Mahachi, who was leading the protest, said they wanted Prof Nyagura to resign because he gave Dr Mugabe a PhD within three months, saying the act devalues the standards of the institution.

“This is clearly a student’s agenda as you can see our motive as students is to send a message that we are tired. Levi Nyagura must resign for donating a PhD to (First Lady)Grace Mugabe,” he said

Now the Thesis has been found under the name Grace Marufu.
