Grade 7 pupil gives birth during exam

A grade 7 pupil at Murongwe Primary School in Mberengwa East Constituent had labor pains during her grade 7 national examination at the school before giving birth to a bouncing baby girl later that evening.
The 14-year-old pupil was ferried to a nearby clinic where she gave birth and had to write her two exams from the clinic.
Mberengwa District Schools Inspectorate Easywell Sibanda confirmed the incident but declined to comment further.
“We received information from the school but we haven’t been cleared by our superiors to disclose information since investigations are being carried out,” he said. However, sources who witnessed the incident narrated the ordeal to The Mirror.
“The incident happened around 9am when pupils had just begun their General Paper examination. The pupil complained that she was in pain and could not carry on with the exam.
“The girl was then escorted by two teachers to the clinic where it was discovered that she was pregnant and was about to deliver”.
Sources close to the matter said the pupil had a normal delivery around 8pm and was able to write her next day exam while admitted at Murongwe clinic.
The girl’s parents (name supplied) said they are yet to report the case to the Police until their child finishes writing her exams.
“We will report the matter to the Police after her exams but she alleges that my neighbour’s son, a Form 3 pupil at Rengwe Secondary is responsible,” said the father.
