Ireland:Prison officers’ HIV terror after being bitten by marauding Zimbabwean rapist in jail attack

The Midlands Prison in Portlaoise

FOUR prison officers face an agonising wait for medical tests after being attacked by an inmate who previously taunted his victim that he is HIV positive.

Last night Zimbabwe-born Lovemore Dube launched a violent attack at the Midlands Prison as officer tried to move him within the jail.

Sources say he managed to bite three of the officers during the confrontation and another suffered a broken finger.

One officer suffered a particularly bad bite and is described as being “through to the bone on his forearm”, according to sources.

The officers now have to undergo test to see check if there has been any infection.

The incident happened after Dube demanded medication at a time when it was not due to be dispensed and then refused to leave the area.

Dube is serving a seven year sentence for raping a woman who he told he was HIV positive and had hepatitis in July, 2012 at her home in Cork.

Dube attacked her when she was alone in the house less than an hour after she and her fiance had invited him in for coffee as it was raining.

In addition to the physical injuries and emotional distress she suffered as result of the rape, Dube had added to her trauma by telling her he was HIV positive and had hepatitis C.

She had to wait several stressful days before test results came back to show she was clear.
