GWERU – A lower Gweru Mission student who did not know that the iron he was holding was hot placed it on the chest of a colleague thereby inflicting injuries on the later.
The student was teasing his friend saying that he was going to burn him with an iron but he did not realise that the iron he was holding was actually hot, said sources that spoke to The Mirror.
Midlands Provincial Education Director Agnes Gudo confirmed the incident.
She however, said what was of concern was that the school head failed to report the matter to his superiors or to the Police.
Gudo added that the school head has since been instructed to submit a report on the incident.
“The head did not report the matter to the district office and l had to call the school head who confirmed that the issue is true and he said that he thought it was a minor case and that is why he did not report it to the district officer.
“I have since asked the head to compile a report so that my office can investigate the matter,” said Dube.
The injured student’s mother also confirmed the matter in a telephone interview with The Mirror.
“It is true and I am happy with the way the school assisted me over the issue. They actually sent a messenger to convey the message and later gave my child a pass to come home so that I personally attend to the problem,” said the mother.
Midlands Police spokesperson Inspector Joel Goko said that he had not yet received the report.-mirror
