Mandiitawepi Chimene appointed new war vets chair after Mutsvangwa ouster

HARARE – The Zimbabwe National Liberation War Veterans Association (ZNLWVA) has appointed Manicaland provincial governor Mandi Chimene as its new leader following last weekend’s ouster of Christopher Mutsvangwa.Manicaland-Provincial-Minister-Mandi-Chimene-Billy-Rautenbach-Conrad-Rautenbach-and-Arda-ceo-Mr-Mbona

ZNLWVA national secretary for legal affairs, Thomas Makambe, told a news conference in Harare yesterday that Chimene, who was hitherto the spokesperson, will be deputised by George Mlala while Michael Mapfumo becomes the new secretary-general on an interim basis.

“The three will run the affairs of the association with other members of the ZNLWVA executive until we hold elections at a date to be announced in due course,” Makambe said.

Mutsvangwa, who is also War Veterans minister, was booted out as the ZNLWVA chairperson last Friday through a vote of no confidence together with his deputy Headman Moyo and secretary-general Victor Matemadanda.

However, the trio have scoffed at their ouster as null and void saying Chimene had no locus standi since she forfeited her post after she spent more than three months without attending national executive committee.

Among a litany of charges levelled against Mutsvangwa and his colleagues including his wife Monica is the allegation of disrespecting President Robert Mugabe and his wife Grace and making press statement using abusive language directed at other party and government officials.
