Masvingo Actor to travel to Hollywood

A Masvingo script writer and actor Donovan Takaendesa will travel to Hollywood in USA next month after he was chosen to perform at the 21st World Championships of Performing Arts (WCOPA).

Takaendesa will be part of 27 members of Team Zimbabwe 2017 which will participate alongside other world stars at Long Beach California from June 30 to July 9, 2017. The 27 are going under the Zimbabwe Championships of Performing Arts (ZICOPA).
Speaking at Charles Austin Theatre last Friday during a function organised to raise funds which will enable him to make his trip, Takaendesa said he is going to compete in three categories which are television, classical and comic acting.
However his hurdle was to raise the money for the trip to Hollywood.
“I started participating in theatre way back during my days at Victoria High School when I started writing scripts. I will compete in three categories but this will only be possible if I manage to get $6000 which is required for my trip and I am thankful to individuals and companies who came to support me here tonight,” said Takaendesa.
Although the fundraising event was attended by a few people $1000 was raised after organisations and individuals made pledges. Masvingo Arts and Theatre pledged $350, Provincial Culture Officer $150; Gonarezhou Arts $150 and $400 was pledged by individuals.
