Midzi’s wife appointed executor as another child resurfaces

The family of the late former Mines minister Amos Midzi has appointed his wife Alice to be the executor amid revelations that a daughter born out of wedlock has surfaced demanding to see his father’s will and a share of his estate.midzi body

Midzi, who died last month of suspected poisoning, left behind three known children with his wife, but it has now emerged that he had twins outside wedlock with a woman called Lucia Makazhu although one of the siblings is now late.

Chido Makazhu (20) has approached the Master of High Court seeking to be enjoined with other beneficiaries in the distribution of the estate

According to court documents gleaned by NewsDay, Chido is using Makazhu as her surname after Midzi together with his brother, Stanley allegedly entered into an agreement on February 25, 2001 to secretly take care of the child while the matter was handled privately-away from other family members.

But after his unexpected death, the daughter, who is doing Upper Six at a college in Harare, wants to be given a portion of the estate and her welfare taken care of by the assets the former Cabinet minister has.

Makazhu confirmed that her daughter, Chido had approached the courts and she has been included on the list of beneficiaries entitled to Midzi’s estate.

“Yes, we went to the Master of High Court and my daughter along with her sister and brothers and the wife, Alice, were duly registered as beneficiaries of Cde Amos Midzi’s estate,” she said.

However, Stanley pleaded with NewsDay to leave him out of the estate issue claiming that he was in Kariba attending a business seminar.

“Please can you allow me not to comment on the matter? As a family, we have accepted the fate that my brother is no-more and we have resolved to move on. In any case, I did not attend the court session so whatever was discussed at that meeting, I would not know,” he said.

According to sources who attended the meeting, the Makazhu family wants the Midzi family to produce a will before the appointed executor winds down the late Epworth MP’s estate.

A family member said Midzi had properties in Msasa, Greendale and Mt Pleasant among other investments.newsday
