Mnangagwa Announces Mega Retirement Package for MDC Leader Tsvangirai

President Emmerson Mnangagwa who just awarded a hefty retirement package to former president Robert  Mugabe is reported to have discussed former Prime Minister Morgan Tsvangirai’s pension during his 45-minute meeting with the Movement for Democratic Change leader yesterday.

According to the Daily News, the meeting was actually held at Tsvangirai’s request and the two discussed Tsvangirai’s grievances including his pension.

Tsvangirai was also assured that he could keep his Highlands mansion acquired at a cost of $2.5 million in 2012, the paper said.

Writing in his BSR , Former Tsvangirai’s advisor Dr Alex Magaisa said “It is also reported that Mnangagwa announced a belated pay-off package to Tsvangirai, who served as Prime Minister in the coalition government between 2009 and 2013. It includes the government mansion he has been occupying since his days as Prime Minister, a monthly pension and settlement of all medical expenses”

MDC-T deputy treasurer Charlton Hwende said he wanted to thank the government if it was true that it had finally approved Tsvangirai’s pension because the former Prime Minister really deserved it.

The Daily News says Mnangagwa’s visit was a political boost for the 75-year-old President who is seeking his own mandate in six months or so.

It sent a message to the outside world that his administration looks at the opposition with respect unlike Mugabe’s administration.
