Mnangagwa Flees Zanu PF Women As Succession Battle Takes Hold

Vice President Emmerson Mnangagwa was on Thursday forced to flee to Chiredzi as a Zanu PF succession war tore through the revolutionary party.

Mnangagwa escaped from potential embarrassment after intelligence sources warned him that First Lady Grace Mugabe plotted against him at the Women’s league National Assembly meeting at the Zanu PF headquarters in Harare.

Mnangagwa, who also doubles as the Minister of Justice, Legal and Parliamentary Affairs, instead went to Chiredzi for a constitutional outreach programme where he educated the public on the provisions enshrined in the current constitution.

He was scheduled to give a vote of thanks at 1620 hrs. However, the speech was delivered by Defence Minister Sidney Sekeramayi who is tipped to take over from the 93-year-old  Mugabe.

Mnangagwa leads one of the two factions setting themselves up to succeed Mugabe. The first lady is associated with a youthful faction called G-40, or Generation 40.

At the same meeting , Grace Mugabe  said there is nothing wrong with Cde Mugabe naming his successor, adding that the move will enable all members to rally behind one candidate.

Using the biblical story of Adonija who organised a feast to crown himself because his father the king was sick, Grace  said the President has the right to be involved in naming his successor, saying the President’s word is final.

In response, Robert Mugabe blasts Mnangagwa and the Generals.[fbvideo link=”https://www.facebook.com/vchimhutu/videos/10159186715445284/” width=”500″ height=”400″ onlyvideo=”1″]
