Mugabe congratulates Nguema on appointing son VP

PRESIDENT Robert Mugabe this week sent a congratulatory message to his close friend, President of Equatorial Guinea’s President Teodoro Obiang’ Nguema Mbasogo, following the latter’s decision to appoint his first son as that country’s Vice President. This week Nguema promoted his first son Teodorin Nguema Obiang (47) to the position of the country’s Vice President in charge of defence and security, according to a decree read on state television on Wednesday.

“In accordance with the Basic Law of Equatorial Guinea, I appoint His Excellency Teodoro Nguema Obiang Mangue Vice President of the Republic,” read the presidential decree. This prompted Harare to send a congratulatory message to Malabo, as Presidents Nguema and Mugabe as very close allies. “On behalf of the Government and people of the Republic of Zimbabwe, ZANU-PF and indeed on my own behalf, I wish to extend our hearty congratulations to you on your accustomed wisdom to appoint His Excellency Teodoro Nguema Obiang Mangue Vice President of the Republic of Equatorial Guinea.

 

Your exemplary decision to elevate Cde Obiang Mangue to the high office of Vice President of that great country is testimony to the faith and confidence that the people of Equatorial Guinea have in you. It is a decision that inspires many democratic leaders on the continent. As the Government and people of Zimbabwe join you in celebrating this event in the history of the Equatorial Guinea, I take this opportunity to assure you Mr President that the Government of the Republic of Zimbabwe remains ready to engage your Government in any desirable endeavour to improve our bilateral relations. I wish you personal good health, peace and prosperity to the people of the Equatorial Guinea.
