Three women & two young children were shot in the upper body at their home on Monday night.

JOHANNESBURG – Police are now collecting evidence and trying to determine the identity of a man who shot and killed five relatives in Hillbrow.

Three women and two young children were shot in the upper body at their home on Monday night.

Details surrounding the shooting are still sketchy.

Police say the suspect entered the family’s home and opened fire on the victims.

The police’s Mavela Masondo says, “We’re appealing to anyone who might have information that can lead to the arrest of this suspect to please contact our Crime Stop number, 08600 10111.”

LOVERS QUARREL
Residents have told Eyewitness News that they suspect one of the deceased had a fight with her boyfriend shortly before he turned the gun on all five family members.

A man who works at the block of flats says he knew one of the deceased.

“She was a cool lady, always friendly. I knew her for maybe about 15 years.”

A security guard says he discovered the deceased in the room on Monday night

“The building manager told me to come and check. I checked and found people lying down. I went back down to tell the building manager that people are already dead on the ninth floor and the manager called the police.”

Inside the room, blood is splattered all over the walls and floor.

The suspect is still at large.

POLICE COMB THE SCENE
At the same time, police are combing the flat on the ninth floor of the Madison Square block of flats in Hillbrow for evidence that might help authorities track down the suspect.

Police officers are interviewing eyewitnesses who might shed more light on what happened.

The small room where the shooting took place has been cordoned off but inside, a blood stained blanket and splattered blood are still visible.

Security says they didn’t hear any gunshots ring out on Monday.

Investigations are continuing.
