A senior police officer who allegedly stole guns and ammunition from the National Armoury before selling it to wildlife poachers since 2009 to 2016 has been arrested.
Sergeant Alois Mabika who was then stationed at the National Armoury for more than 7 years allegedly hatched a plan to steal firearms which he sold to Obiat Shumba a wildlife poacher from Gokwe. Shumba from Madzivazvido of Gokwe under chief Chireya appeared at the courts on Monday on allegations of illegally selling an assault rifle and ammunition to poachers in the Chirisa Game reserve.
He allegedly implicated Mabika as the sole supplier of the guns. Mabika, according to the police, allegedly stole an AK47 with rounds of ammunition, 1x 3.75 rifle with rounds of ammunition, 3 x 306 rifles with ammunition, 2 x 7.9 riffle with ammunition, 1 x 303 rifle with ammunition and 2x FN rifles with rounds of ammunition which he all sold to Shumba. Some of the stolen firearms were recovered from Shumba and one Stanley Musukuma. Mabika appeared before Harare Magistrate Elisha Singano facing charges of theft and was granted a $200 bail. He

Mabika appeared before Harare Magistrate Elisha Singano facing charges of theft and was granted a $200 bail. He was remanded him to 12 October 2017 and ordered not to interfere with witnesses. He was represented by Harare lawyer Tungamirai Muganhiri while Tatenda Murindagomo appeared for the State.
