Former Zimbabwe First Lady Dr Grace Mugabe is suffering from a severe form of depression and is being kept under house arrest by the Zimbabwe military, an online publication PaZimbabwe.com has reported.

A source close to the family revealed that since the November coup, Grace Mugabe who has narrated having strange dreams about George Charamba has been kept indoors under heavy military guard at their family home in the plush suburb of Borrowdale. Other reports suggested she is only allowed to go to her Orphanage in Mazowe under guard.

There had been reports that Grace would make her first public appearance this weekend at the funeral however she did not show up. The Mugabes and The Gutis are close friends and their son-in-law Simba Chikoore is a senior elder in the church.

The source revealed to this paper that Grace Mugabe is not allowed to go outside the perimeters of the house. Mugabe had pleaded with Mnangagwa to allow her to accompany him for his medical checkup in Singapore last month but Mnangagwa refused. Mnangagwa instead reacted by withdrawing her personal state security. There is fear that Grace would reconnect with her allies Jonathan Moyo and Saviour Kasukuwere.

The greatest fear for the military government is that Moyo, Grace, Kasukuwere and Zhuwao may sabotage it and reveal secrets related to the activities of  Mnangagwa and Chiwenga that can be detrimental to their bid to lure international support.

The source also revealed that Grace Mugabe has been suffering from depression due to her isolation. She has not been allowed visitors and all her children are now living away from her in the Far East.

“She is virtually by herself. The only person she has at this point is Gushungo but you know with his advanced age, there is nothing much he can do. She is depressed, sometimes bordering on psychosis”

It is believed that Grace has tried to reach out to close family friends like Gideon Gono and Father Mukonori for help in pleading her case with the military government but this has been fruitless.-PaZimbabwe
