Woman assaulted for ‘throwing faeces’ into drinking well

Two Epworth men appeared at the Harare Magistrates’ Court yesterday on allegations of assaulting a 19-year-old woman, who had thrown human faeces down their drinking well.

Brian Makoni (25) and Tatenda Masuka (34) were released on free bail by Harare magistrate, Tilda Mazhande and were remanded to November 23.

The State alleges on November 15 at around 9am, Masuka approached the complainant, Edna Venganai, and asked why she opposed other lodgers when they plotted to throw human waste into their landlord’s well.

The State alleges Venganai told Masuka that she could not be that cruel.

She then proceeded to the well to draw some water and while there, Masuka allegedly threw some faeces down the well.

When the complainant asked him why he had done so, Masuka then called out Venganai’s husband and other lodgers. He told them Venganai had thrown faeces down the well.

The suspects then assaulted the complainant all over the body. Venganai reported the matter to the police, leading to Masuka and Makoni’s arrest.-Newsday
