The acting provincial Youth League chair Edson Takataka confirmed the development, saying a vote of no confidence had been passed against Gomwe.

“The allegations that Gomwe is facing are serious and, as the province, we felt he must step aside until he is cleared,” he said.

This is the second time that Gomwe has been suspended but in the first attempt he was saved by the politburo which lifted his ouster.

The Youth League boss is before the courts facing allegations of extortion using the First Lady, Grace Mugabe’s name.

A group of 11 housing cooperatives took the matter to the party’s secretary for tourism, Auxillia Mnangagwa who forwarded the matter to the First Lady who then ordered that Gomwe be arrested.

Last year, Gomwe was instrumental in campaigning for the ouster of Joice Mujuru and a clique of party officials allegedly linked to her faction.

Two weeks ago, Gomwe was at war with Zanu PF commissar, Saviour Kasukuwere over who should be the party’s candidate for Harare East.

Kasukuwere told a rally in Kuwadzana Thursday afternoon that people who abuse the name of the party will be jailed without fear or favour.

“If you abuse the Zanu PF you will exchange this party regalia for the prison garb. I want to warn you. Don’t ever tarnish the name of the party or that of the president,” he said.

Other members who have also been suspended are Claris Munyati and Tendai Chirau.

Gomwe is arrested together with five other party officials.
