Justice and Legal Affairs Minister Ziyambi Ziyambi has mocked Zimbabwe Hospital Doctors Association (ZHDA) acting president Dr Peter Magombeyi for “abducting himself”.
Addressing participants to a discussion organised by the Zimbabwe Human Rights NGO Forum on Thursday, Ziyambi claimed that Dr Magombeyi faked the abduction in order to get a scholarship to study in the United States of America. He said:
I honestly want to believe that there are people who are conducting this (abductions) for their own ends.
I will give a brief a good example of the good Doctor Magombeyi, he announced his abduction, and the abductors has the liberty of allowing him to send a message that I have been abducted.
Dr Magombeyi went missing for almost a week last month with reports claiming that he had been abducted by masked gunmen from his home in Budiriro, Harare.
He was later found in Nyabira, a location about 34 kilometres Northwest of Harare. He was eventually airlifted to South Africa to receive specialist treatment after he was allegedly injected with an unknown substance by his captors.
