Zimbabwean student dragged from her home by UK Home Office officials freed

The young Zimbabwean student dragged from her home by Home Office officials in the UK has been freed from detention after a protracted campaign.Emmaculate Tshuma

Emmaculate Tshuma (18) from Manchester was threatened with deportation after she was detained. Ezra Sibanda, one of those who campaigned for her release said he felt enormous relief that the student was out.

He said : “I am relieved that Emmaculate Tshuma has been released. After the Home Office came for her at the break of dawn many weeks back and literally dragged her away like an ISIS terrorist you would be forgiven for not realising that they were dragging away an innocent child. She has been to hell and back. Locked away and alone Emma was given amazing support by our community. I want to thank everyone that prayed for her and wished her well. Special thanks to Mzansi Jams for Social media and awareness support, everyone who called the airlines to stop them assisting the Home Office to deport Emmaculate. Her sister Sethule Tshuma who worked tirelessly 24/7 calling people to help, paying legal fees and supporting her sister while in detention, our social network friends from all over the world for the support.

We can only conquer when working together and united for a common purpose. We have proved the power is with the people and may the spirit of togetherness prevail. The young Emmaculate is now at home and it’s only the beginning of another battle to help her remain here and further her education.”-Online
