Zimbabwe Football Association Chairman Phillip Chiyangwa has threatened to take legal action against the Confederation of African Football’s (CAF) president and secretaty general.
As per a BBC report, Chiyangwa has been displeased that a birthday party he hosted in Harare on the 23rd of February is set to be an issue to be discussed by the CAF Executive Committee next week.
Chiyangwa, who was recently elected as president of the Council of Southern Africa Football Association, claimed the gathering also served as a celebration of his triumph in the election. Heads of football associations of several countries in Southern Africa, as well as FIFA President Gianni Infantino, were in attendance.
It’s worth mentioning that the CAF had already warned Chiyangwa that hosting the party would be seen as an attempt to destabilize Africa’s football governing body.
Speaking to BBC Sport, Chiyangwa said, “They shouldn’t dare make these outrageous allegations. My legal team is and will be ready to go into battle with President Issa Hayatou and Secretary General Hicham El Amrani.”
“If there are any deliberations to disturb my interests. I will be taking legal action to the extent where Issa Hayatou and Hicham Al Amrani will be personally held accountable,” he emphasized.
This decision comes just one week from the CAF’s Presidential Elections, which will see Madagascar FA President Ahmad Ahmad attempt to deny incumbent Hayatou an eighth term.
