Warriors all guns out for Swaziland

The Warriors will be out to atone for Good Friday’s disappointing 1-1 away draw with Swaziland when they face the same opponents on Easter Monday in a 2017 Afcon qualifier at the National Sports Stadium.

Following the draw, Zimbabwe missed a chance to firmly control Group L as they are still tied with Swaziland on five points each but with an inferior goal difference.

Thanks to Malawi holding Guinea 0-0 away on the same day, the threat of the West Africans was neutralized in favour of the Warriors.

Guinea and Malawi have two points each and Zimbabwe will on Monday try to avoid letting slip another full set of points at home.

After dropping two points, Callisto Pasuwa’s side still have a chance to redeem themselves and take charge of this group.

The Warriors arrived back in Harare on Saturday and we back in training on Sunday morning.

Warriors defender Costa Nhamoinesu who was rock solid in Lobamba feels they are still in control of their destiny although they need to improve on Monday.

“Of course it was a bit disappointing failing to win in Swaziland. We had wanted maximum points but at least we got a point especially considering that we were playing away from home,” the Sparta Prague left-back said.

“We are still focused on qualifying for Afcon. When the guys heard about the Guinea-Malawi result we were happy and we just told ourselves that it is still game on and we have to shape our campaign while on top of the group starting on Monday. We really want the three points to stay safe at the top and everyone is willing to give their all.”

Zimbabwe are seeking a third ever appearance at Afcon after only participating at the 2004 and 2006 editions.-Supersport
