The country only has 12 months supply of anti-retal virals according to the national aids council (NAC). This devastating news comes after members of the parliamentary portfolio committee on health have said that the ARVs on hand would only sustain the country until September.
Whilst giving a speech to local leaders of religious groups and people with HIV and AIDS, the parliamentary portfolio committee on health and child care stated that only three months of ARV treatment medication was left in stock.
the information supplied at the gathering was misleading as the country does have an adequate stocks of ARVs on hand according to, Dr Tapiwa Magure chief executive of NAC. The bulk of these ARVs procured by the global fund while some were purchased by the national aids trust funds
According to the doctor at least 95% of people on ARV’s in the country are still taking the first line regiment.
The country gets it’s ARVs from Avakash, a company abroad. as it is moving towards achieving the 2014 United Nations program on HIV and AIDS new global targets called the 90-90-90.
