A Look At Some Of Zimbabwe’s Parliamentarians and Potential Cabinet Members

Now that the whirlwind has come and gone and Zimbabwe has voted on 30 July, Zimbabweans are left with the herculean task of rebuilding their country with their newly-elected government following nearly 38 years of destruction under the leadership of Robert Mugabe.

With the dust settled following a court challenge that saw  ED Mnangagwa declared president Zimbabweans, are keen to see how the new cabinet will be formed. Below are young and new winners who might make it to cabinet.

1.Justice Mayor Wadyajena

Mayor Justice Wadyajena is a politician, who was elected to be the Member of Parliament (MP) of the Gokwe-Nembudziya constituency after the July 30 election of 2018 in which the Zimbabwe African National Union-Patriotic Front (Zanu- PF) won.

Background
Justice Mayor Wadyajena was born in Bulawayo on 19 November 1980, though his home area is Nembudziya, Gokwe.He married his wife Rebbeca at the age of at 21 and together they have 4 children.

Education
He holds an MSc in International Relations from University of Zimbabwe and a BSc (Hons) degree. He is studying for a Bachelor of Laws (LLB) with University of London. Wadyajena has expertise in the following fields: ·Law-making and Public Policy ·Local interest and grassroots-level advocacy ·Public Finance Management ·Construction and Infrastructure Development ·Transport and Logistics ·Energy

PREDICTION: He could be appointed Deputy Minister of Finance

2.Energy Mutodi

Energy Mutodi is a controversial Harare businessman, Sungura musician, politician and an academic. He rose to prominence in 2012 when he released his debut album Simbi Yamudhara. He was accused of swindling money from civil servants through his housing co-operative, National Housing Development Trust Zimbabwe.

Background
Mutodi was born on 4 August 1978.[1] He graduated with a Bachelor of Arts Degree at the University of Zimbabwe (UZ) in 2001. He went to South Africa and was enrolled at Witwatersrand where he graduated with a Certificate in Defense Management. In 2011 he was at UZ doing a Masters Degree in Business Administration. He was once married Tariro Chirende and the two had a son, Energy Mutodi Junior.

PREDICTION : He could take over Sports Ministry from Kazembe Kazembe

 

3. Dr Killer Zivhu

Killer Zivhu, who is a self-confessed Zanu PF supporter and is currently president of Cross Border Traders Association, has already facilitated a $15 million loan facility from the RBZ which is expected to benefit thousands of cross-border traders. Although an outsider , he might be awarded with a Housing Portifolio.

4. Joshua Sacco

Chimanimani East  National Assembly member, Cde Joshua Sacco has rolled out a number of community assistance projects with 12 schools in his constituency benefiting.

In line with the new dispensation’s thrust for legislators to play a critical role towards the development of their constituencies,  Sacco is spearheading a number of constituency development projects.

Most parts of Chimanimani are on sloppy terrain due to the range of mountains in the area, with the scenic view posing a number of challenges in the construction of football grounds.

Having realised that most football grounds in the area are substandard, Sacco embarked on a project to standardise the football grounds, saying it is in line with his vision to support the develop of sport from the grassroots.

PREDICTION: He will be given a Ministerial role to balance and give minority whites confidence in Mnangagwa’s cabinet.
