A homicide in Lexington early Sunday morning is making national headlines. The Lexington Police Department says 15-year-old Trinity Gay was shot to death around 4a.m. Sunday outside the Cook Out restaurant on Broadway.
Gay was the daughter of Olympic sprinter Tyson Gay. Gay has taken part in the last three Summer Olympics. He won a team silver medal at the 2012 London Games, but it was stripped after he tested positive for steroids.
According to police, witnesses say they saw shots fired between a gray Dodge Charger and a dark-colored sports car. Police say Gay died at the hospital. Officers say they have found the Dodge Charger involved and are questioning two people of interest.
The Fayette County Superintendent sent this statement Sunday morning.
“This is from Manny: Our hearts are broken this morning over the loss of Trinity to this tragic and senseless act of violence. Please join us in keeping the Gay family close in thought and prayer and supporting the students, staff, and families at Lafayette High during this unspeakably difficult time.”
