Heath Streak, a former Zimbabwe pacer who cancelled out the possibility of contract renewal with Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) last month as the bowling coach of the Tigers, will now be seen in a new role.

Though Streak’s ultimate aim is to be associated with Indian national team as its bowling coach, he will now become a seasonal commentator during the forthcoming series between India and Zimbabwe.

However, Streak will not be commentating from the direct match venue, but he will be working with the series broadcaster in India — Ten Sports, and will do his commentating job from the channel’s Delhi Studio.

The three-match ODI series between an ‘inexperienced’ India and a strong ‘Zimbabwe’ will begin from June 11 (Saturday). Ahead of the series, the 43-year old Zimbabwe legend has already reached India.

“I have done about four series in Zimbabwe as a guest commentator in the past. I also did studio work for Sky Sports in Zimbabwe series matches during my time when I was playing county cricket in UK,” he said.

“I am not sure who other Ten Sports commentators are. I think past cricketers and non-cricketers commentators offer a good blend. Firstly, because you a past player doesn’t automatically mean you will succeed as a commentator”.

“Like anything in life you must have a passion for what you are doing and take interest in current players, trends and strategies. As a past player you do have an advantage having experienced playing different situations”.

“However non cricketing commentators bring a great perspective and often see things from a different angle; generally highly knowledgeable on statistics and history of the game which is not always the case with players,” he added.

Heath Streak has also been working out his future plans to be associated in coaching. He has also been associated with Gujarat Lions team in the recently concluded Indian Premier League (IPL), and led the new IPL franchise to an impressive third-stand finish.
