Heath Streak steps down as Bangladesh bowling coach

Heath Streak, former Zimbabwe captain, has stepped down from his role as Bangladesh’s bowling coach. Streak, who was appointed as the coach of the Bangladesh setup in May 2014, was on a two-year contract, which was set to expire by the end of this month. During his tenure, the 42-year-old played a vital role in the development of promising pacers like Taskin Ahmed, Mustafizur Rahman and Rubel Hossain.Heath Streak

“He has resigned,” Akram Khan said on Thursday (May 26) to ESPNcricinfo. “He has informed the board. Now we will speed up our search for the new bowling coach.”

Earlier, Akram had stated that they were trying to persuade Streak to continue in his role. “We always want a settled unit for our coaching staff, so we actually wanted Streak to stay. However, if he wants to leave, we will not try to hold him back.”

Streak played 65 Tests and 189 One-Day Internationals (ODIs) for Zimbabwe and was also their coach from 2009 to 2013. He is currently the bowling coach of the Rajkot-based Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise Gujarat Lions and is reportedly interested in taking up a role at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bangalore. Chaminda Vaas, Champaka Ramanayake, Aaqib Javed and Venkatesh Prasad are said to be in contention to replace him in the Bangladesh coaching setup.
