A 48-year-old Chikanga man who publicly attacked his wife over a mango will be put on trial on physical abuse charges.
Maxwell Taderera of Chikanga 1 made a partial plea of guilt when he appeared before magistrate Poterai Gwezhira.
Taderera was remanded out of custody to January 31 for trial for assaulting Maria Gwarimba who had asked him why he only had bought a mango for himself.
He is being charged with physical abuse according to section 4 as read with section 3 (1)(a) of the Domestic Violence Act.
It is the State’s case that on January 15, 2017 at 0900 hours Maria and her younger sister Rutendo visited Taderera at Spar Chikanga where he is employed and found him eating a mango.
In jest, Maria asked why he had only bought one mango despite knowing that they too would have enjoyed the fruit.
This infuriated Taderera who pummelled his wife all over the body with clenched fists before striking her with a plank.
Taderera admitted to the assault but denied using a plank, forcing the case to go on trial.
