Juju sparks a furore as Dynamos kit manager was caught conducting rituals

A MIDDLE aged man, who claimed to be a Dynamos kit manager, was manhandled at Sakubva Stadium on Sunday after he was found in possession of two orange Dynamos training bibs, a needle pinned to one of the bibs and a bottle of water he was spraying on the bibs while making suspicious movements within changing rooms’ area. This occurred when the match was already underway on the field of play.

DeMbare were facing Premiership newboys, Mutare City Rovers at Sakubva Stadium on Sunday in a match that ended in a 2-1 scoreline in favour of the fading Harare giants.

The incident, which drew the attention of a few spectators who were seated on the terraces near the changing rooms, saw a number of Mutare City Rovers officials demanding answers to the man who was also wearing a Dynamos replica jersey.

In a statement, Mutare City Rovers confirmed that the man who claimed to be Dynamos kit manager was manhandled by their officials after the discovery of reasonable evidence that he was conducting rituals ostensibly to influence the result of the Castle Lager Premiership match that was underway.

“There was a man who claimed to be a Dynamos kit manager who was making some suspicious movements within the changing rooms.

“When one of our security guys saw him, he alerted us and we assigned some of our officials to investigate. When they approached him, he said he was the Dynamos kit manager, but could not convincingly explain what he was doing in that area when the match was underway.

“This is when they asked to have a look at what he was holding and he refused. That then resulted in the Mutare City Rovers security guys interrogating him trying to get to the bottom of his actions. They grabbed what the man was holding in his hands. They discovered that there were two orange training bibs with a needle pinned to one of the bibs and a bottle of water he was spraying on the bibs.

“Our guys were convinced that this was a form of ritual meant to influence the result of the match,” said Mutare City Rovers.

Efforts to get a comment from Dynamos secretary general Webster Chikengezha were fruitless at the time of going to Press as his mobile repeatedly went unanswered.

However, the Mutare Premiership rookies, said they do not condone use of juju in football.

“We are a professional football outfit that does not tolerate the use of juju in football. It is not only archaic but unprofessional for any club or official in this day and age to believe that juju will help win matches,” added Mutare City Rovers.
