Zim teenager touted as future England star

Ipswich Town coach Mick McCarthy has touted teenage Zimbabwean midfielder Tristan Nydam to be a future star.

Nydam was born in Zimbabwe in November 1999, but subsequently immigrated to England with his mother following the completion of his primary school education.

The 16-year-old’s exploits are said to have caught the eye of under-17 team coach Steve Cooper, who has reportedly put the Africa-born teenager on stand-by for the English team currently competing in the European-U17 Championships.

McCarthy is adamant of the midfielders ability to step-up to the first-team, despite his tender age.

“Tristan Nydam, he’s a really good player. He’s the one that’s stood out for us,” McCarthy told the Independent Ipswich Town website.

“They’re generally miles off the first team at that age group, certainly coming in. I see them everyday, because we’re all in the same building and on a lot of ocassions they train.”

The young Three Lions team advanced to the quarter-finals of the Under-17 European Championship, following their 3-1 victory over Denmark.
