A 41 YEAR-OLD Kwekwe man who allegedly hit his wife with a shock absorber metal bar causing her death has claimed that she had grabbed and pulled his privates after he confronted her over infidelity.
Thembinkosi Gumbi of house number 400B/6 Mbizo appeared before the High court in Gweru Tuesday charged with the murder of his wife.
Prosecutors allege that on the 29th December 2013, Gumbi bashed his wife with a shock absorber on the head and all over the body several times.
His wife, Nyarai Moyo aged 28 at the time, later died as a result of injures from the assault on the 5th January 2014.
Gumbi admitted hitting his wife once on the head with the metal after he had earlier on beaten her with a switch when he caught her chatting to a boyfriend on her mobile.
He said Nyarai went outside the house and when he followed she gabbed and pulled his privates and out of pain he picked the shock absorber and hit her once with the metal object.
“The pain was unbearable my lord when she pulled my private organs and I had to pick the metal and hit her with it once on the left side of the head,” Gumbi told High Court Judge, Justice Lawrence Kamocha during his trial at the Gweru circuit.
The judge said he would deliver judgement on Wednesday.
The court heard that on the 29th December 2013 and at abut 11pm Gumbi had a quarrel with his wife which resulted in her locking herself in a car.
After he ordered her to get out of the vehicle and she refused he allegedly armed himself with a shock absorber and smashed the window screen.
Enraged Gumbi allegedly got into the vehicle through the smashed window and grabbed Nyarai and pulled her out of the car.
He struck her with the metal all over the head and body several times ignoring her cries to stop.
Neighbours reported the matter to the police leading to his arrest.
The wife was transferred to Parirenyatwa Hospital where she died on the 5th January 2014.
