Chamisa’s lawyer Thabani Mpofu Arrested

Accused … Advocate Thabani Mpofu (centre) and his lawyer Beatrice Mtetwa at police station on Monday

HARARE – Top Harare lawyer Advocate Thabani Mpofu attended a police station by appointment on Monday after police twice raided his homes, his lawyer said.

Mpofu arrived at the police Anti-Corruption Unit at Morris Depot accompanied by his lawyer, Beatrice Mtetwa.

By mid-day, Mtetwa said they had not yet been informed what charge Mpofu faced.

The lawyer famously represented MDC leader Nelson Chamisa in his unsuccessful bid to overturn the results of the 2018 presidential elections.

ZimLive sources said police had been asked to investigate claims that Mpofu used an affidavit by a “fictitious person” in a court application last year.

The allegation is not new, and Mpofu previously told one of our correspondents that the claims were “ridiculous and untrue.”
